Dans le patrimoine du Val de Bagnes

Text by Évelyne Lepage
Photographs by Hughes Dubois

This catalogue accompanied a double exhibition and aims, through Hughes Dubois’s lavish photographs, to rediscover the extraordinary inventiveness and subtle aesthetic sensibility displayed by the artistic heritage of Val de Bagnes, in Valais. These photographs of objects used in the everyday life of mountain communities were first exhibited in Bagnes Museum. The result is a dialogue between the simplicity of the objects and the photographs, depictions of materials and veneration of common objects. Exhibiting them invites the visitor to reflect on modes of perception: evoking as they do bygone cultural traditions, objects can become the vectors of contemporary art. A second exhibition concentrated on the Oreiller Forge, in Vilette, a true example of the transmission of talent and of local heritage, rich in tools and especially cowbells, among other things. The photographs were on exhibition at the Mauvoisin dam.

Évelyne Lepage is the organizer of the exhibition and a strategic positioning consultant. She has been the Artistic Director of several events linking twentieth-century art to the art of the twenty-first century.
Hughes Dubois is an independent photographer specializing in artworks, especially in the field of non-european art.
